Our Mission

Hughes Schools is a bilingual educational institution whose mission it is to train and educate students of integrity and accomplishment, using the tools of academic and artistic excellence in an atmosphere of safety and security. We have a committed team of specialized professionals who are continuously researching and updating teaching methods appropriate for the constantly changing educational environment in order to respond to the needs of students, society, and the nation. We maintain excellent communication with our students and all sectors of the global community based on respect and mutual understanding.

Scholarships

Full and partial scholarships for academic and artistic excellence are available to students who have been enrolled in the school for at least one year.

Academics

The Hughes Schools Academic Program is organized on a daily schedule of six 45-minute classes, leading to a high school diploma and university success.

The academic program is rigorous and mandatory for all students. Special emphasis is placed on academic instruction in English from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade.

ACADEMIC EVENTS

Hughes Schools promotes the creative application of academic knowledge at various events during the school year including the Hughes Schools Science and Math Fairs, national and international Academic Olympics, and the Hughes Schools Model United Nations.

Performing Arts

The Hughes Schools Performing Arts program leads students to a high school degree in the Performing Arts and prepares them for future study in a conservatory or university music or dance program

Preparatory

Students in elementary grades 1 to 4 take a preparatory program of choir, music theory, jazz/ballet dance, and Bolivian Folk dance along with introductory classes in violin, guitar, and recorder.

Music Program

Students specializing in Music take classes in music theory, choir, and one or more instruments (piano, strings, bronzes, woodwinds, voice). Additional subjects include history of music, harmony, musical analysis, and ensembles.

Dance Program

Students specializing in Dance study classical ballet, jazz dance, contemporary dance, and Bolivian Folk dance. Additional subjects include choreography, physical preparation for dancers, and history of dance.

Hughes School of the Performing Arts dance companies, choirs, and individual artists have performed at over 250 national and international events including:

Yearly Musicals

Recent Hughes Schools fully-staged dance and musical productions include:

Rio, Happy Feet, Mary Poppins, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, El Gran Poder, El Aguayo, El Horno Mágico and an Original Production: Almost a Princess.

School Calendar

Hughes Schools follows the Bolivian Department of Education yearly calendar, which begins in February of each year and ends in November.

Community Service

Hughes Schools student and teacher volunteers actively support the local community by donating time, energy, and materials to assist various health, educational and service projects.

Hughes Schools Major Awards and Distinctions for Academic Excellence include:

Four National Youth Science Foundation Scholarship Winners

Sponsored by the United States Department of State and the National Youth Science Foundation, this scholarship is awarded to academically talented students to develop their highest potential in the sciences. The month-long program takes place in the state of West Virginia and the scholarship includes all travel and living expenses.

One COMTECO Short Story Award in Writing

Fifty-four State Science Fair Award winners

One National Space School (NASA) Scholarship Winner

Students receive a full scholarship to attend the United Space School in Houston, Texas. Scholarship winners participate in a variety of space-related activities at the Johnson Space Center, the University of Houston Clear Lake, and Space Center Houston. Activities promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) studies and international collaborations.
